Baptism

Holy Baptism is a Sacrament of the Church, marking “the beginning of all sacramental grace.”

It is most appropriately administered “at the Easter Vigil, on the Day of Pentecost, on All Saints’ Day or the Sunday after All Saints’ Day, and on the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord (the first Sunday after the Epiphany).

It is also appropriate to reserve Baptisms for the visitation of a Bishop” (Anglican Service Book, pages 216-217).  Such timing in general indicates clearly that, while Baptism is obviously an important family happening, it is primarily a Church affair, when persons are grafted onto the body of Christ.  In exceptional pastoral cases, other occasions may be arranged.

In any event, interested parties are asked to register their intent with one of the clergy or notify the Parish office at 508-588-PAUL (7285) as early as possible.
